Our Newsletter
Did you know Mike sends out a newsletter (almost) every week? It's filled with news about bread or whatever Mike is excited about this time. It's "Mike's (more or less) Weekly Baking Tips"!

2018 Class Schedule

In the table below is most of the information you might want about our classes - the date the class will be held, the city in which the class will be held, the name of the class and a more or less brief description of the class. If you click on the name of the class, you'll be taken to a more complete description of the class. In addition to our scheduled classes, we also do retreats and workshops, at your facility or ours. We are happy to have special classes for four or more people.

To register for one of our classes, just select the number of people you want to have attend a class and press the "Add to Cart" button. You can return to this page and add as many people to any class you would like. When you have added all you want, you can use one of the "View Cart" buttons to return to PayPal and pay for your classes. If you want to pay with a credit card, PayPal is our credit card processor, and you do not need to have, or create, a PayPal account to pay via credit card.

If you prefer not to deal with PayPal, you can use the "Contact Us" page and send us an email. Tell us which class you want to be in, how many will be in your party, and how to contact you.

Sorry - not sorry - we sold all the class spaces!
Whole Grain Breads Sanger, Tx

Home ground whole grains!

Yeah, you KNOW you should eat more whole grains. And you've probably heard freshly ground grains are even better!

But so many whole grain breads taste like cardboard - they are penance or a prescription, not a pleasure!

Not these breads!

We'll make three different whole grain breads, all of which will delight you! They will be lighter than you'd imagine, and easier to make than you'd believe.

There are a few tricks you need to learn to unlock whole grain flavors, especially when dealing with freshly ground grains, and we'll teach them to you! Lunch will be a whole wheat focaccia!

Flavored Breads Sanger, Tx

We love simple breads, breads made with just flour, water, salt and a riser. That describes most of our breads, and some would say that's all you really need. Still, sometimes, we want more! A raisin bread. A garlic-cheddar bread. A harvest bread bursting with the grains of harvest time. A cranberry-chocolate bread. A bread stuffed with peppers - maybe jalapenos, maybe hatch green chillies. We could go on and on, and we often do.

So many grocery store "flavored breads" are sad specimens. A lackluster bread baked in a pie pan with a few ingredients tossed on top. We don't do that. We make breads that are bursting with ingredients and flavors! One of our breads is a spin on a Challah, only each braid is a different vegetable bread. Yeah, you can do that!

Saturday, September 8, 2018 9:30 AM Rye baby, rye! Sanger, Tx

It's our German heritage, but we grew up on rye breads and we love them! We'll make several rye breads in class, including a sourdough swirly rye bread. Some people talk about how nutritious rye bread is. How good for you it is.

Yeah, that too. But mostly, it tastes good! Our lunch will be a German rye bread soup that is a charming country cousin to a French Onion soup.

"An Introduction to Sourdough" Sanger, Tx

Our "Introduction to Sourdough" class is one of our foundation classes. In it, you'll learn how to make breads with sourdough, how to care for sourdough and much more. This is a very hands on course, so at the end of the class you'll KNOW you can make sourdough breads because you will have done it in class!

In class, you'll make a great San Francisco Style Sourdough Bread, a 100% Whole Wheat sourdough bread, a wonderful flax seed sourdough bread, and a sourdough pizza for lunch.

If the starters and fates cooperate, class will run until 1 or 2 PM.

You'll take home 3 loaves of baked bread, any pizza leftovers you might have, three loaves of rising bread to bake at home, our sourdough cookbook, a sourdough starter, and you'll know that you can make sourdough bread.

How many people will be attending?

We'll add more classes later in the year. Want a particular class? Just ask!

Don't have time to take one of our classes? Maybe you live too far away? Many of our textbooks are available from Mike's Bread Shoppe at Mike's other bread oriented web site, Sourdoughhome.

Is there a baking or food class you'd like to take that we don't offer? Is there a class we offer that we haven't held in a while? Do you have trouble with Saturday classes? Please tell us! (Well, we won't charge you for the class. Getting here, accommodations and food outside the class are not covered by this offer.) Just let us know on the "Contact Us" page!
