An Introduction to Sourdough Sanger, Tx

Our "Introduction to Sourdough" class is one of our foundation classes. In it, you'll learn how to make breads with sourdough, how to care for sourdough and much more. This is a very hands on course, so at the end of the class you'll KNOW you can make sourdough breads because you will have done it in class!

In class, you'll make a great San Francisco Style Sourdough Bread, a 100% Whole Wheat sourdough bread, a wonderful flax seed sourdough bread, and a sourdough pizza for lunch.

If the starters and fates cooperate, class will run until 1 or 2 PM.

You'll take home 3 loaves of baked bread, any pizza leftovers you might have, three loaves of rising bread to bake at home, our sourdough cookbook, a sourdough starter, and you'll know that you can make sourdough bread.

Sorry! This class has filled up and we aren't accepting more registrations.

If you received a gift card and want to attend this class, please contact us.

If you really want to take this class, please contact us, we can arrange another Introduction to Sourdough class another day.

Mastering Flavorful Breads Sanger, Tx

This is the class that really moves people's baking skills up a few notches!

We look at how to unlock the flavor in the flour you make your bread with. These are all simple breads, but they sure aren't plain.

One recipe, Gunnison River Bread, is an amazing white bread that will make you forget almost everything you ever knew about white breads!

We'll start by baking three breads Mike made the night before and then make three breads in class for you to take home, let rise and bake.

Lunch will be focaccia that you made! Like all our classes, this is a hands on class where you will make bread, bread you'll like, bread you'll be proud of!

Whole Grain Breads Sanger, Tx

Yeah, you KNOW you should eat more whole grains.

But so many whole grain breads taste like cardboard - they are penance or a prescription, not a pleasure!

Not these breads!

We'll make three different whole grain breads, all of which will delight you! They will be lighter than you'd imagine, and easier to make than you'd believe.

There are a few tricks you need to learn to unlock whole grain flavors, and we'll teach them to you! Lunch will be a whole wheat focaccia!

Flavored Breads Sanger, Tx

We love simple breads, breads made with just flour, water, salt and a riser. That describes most of our breads, and some would say that's all you really need. Still, sometimes, we want more! A raisin bread. A garlic-cheddar bread. A harvest bread bursting with the grains of harvest time. A cranberry-chocolate bread. A bread stuffed with peppers - maybe jalapenos, maybe hatch green chillies. We could go on and on, and we often do.

So many grocery store "flavored breads" are sad specimens. A lackluster bread baked in a pie pan with a few ingredients tossed on top. We don't do that. We make breads that are bursting with ingredients and flavors! One of our breads is a spin on a Challah, only each braid is a different vegetable bread. Yeah, you can do that!

Bagel Mania Sanger, Tx

It's sad, but bagels have fallen on hard times. Gone are the days when a bagel was a dense, chewy flavorful bread. Now they are all too often a light bread with little flavor other than "sweet". And it's sad! Did I mention it was sad?

In this class, we make the real deal: classic New York Style bagels, the sort you have trouble finding in New York these days. We'll start by boiling and baking some bagels, you'll learn why bagel lovers say "if they ain't boiled, they ain't bagels", we'll have a bagel party, and then you'll make more bagels to take home, let rise overnight, boil and bake for the next day's breakfast. This is one of our most enjoyable classes!

We'll add more classes later in the year. Want a particular class? Just ask!

Don't have time to take one of our classes? Maybe you live too far away? Many of our textbooks are available from Mike's Bread Shoppe at Mike's other bread oriented web site, Sourdoughhome.

Is there a baking or food class you'd like to take that we don't offer? Is there a class we offer that we haven't held in a while? Do you have trouble with Saturday classes? Please tell us! The bagel class came about because people asked for it.We offer custom classes if you can get together enough people to make it worth our while - and that's not a lot of people! If you suggest a new class and we decide to offer it, we'll invite you to the first class, on us! (Well, we won't charge you for the class. Getting here, accommodations and food outside the class are not covered by this offer.) Just let us know on the "Contact Us" page!
